9 11 Memorial 5K

Event Details: On September 5, 2026, the Valdosta Fire Department will hold its 5th Annual 9/11 Memorial Run in remembrance of the tragic events of September 11, 2001. This event aims to honor those who lost their lives, as well as the brave first responders who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. The race will feature a patriotic theme, and we encourage community members to show their support by lining the racecourse with decorated signs and/or costumes.

Packet Pickup Information:

  • Pre-Race Packet Pickup: Friday, September 4, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at 4434 Forrest Street Ext., Valdosta, GA.
  • Race Day Packet Pickup: Begins at 6:30 AM on September 5, 2026.

Shirt Availability: News Flash: The cutoff date for ordering shirts was August 15, 2026. We have ordered extra shirts for late entries; however, those runners will receive their shirts after the race. Please note that preferred sizes are not guaranteed.

USATF Certification: We are pleased to announce that the 9/11 Memorial 5K is now officially USATF-certified! This certification means that your run may qualify you for major events with qualifying standards, such as the Peachtree Road Race and prestigious marathons like New York and Boston. USATF Certificate: GA24032WC.

Inter-Agency Competition: We invite the Tifton Fire Department, Brooks Fire Department, Moody Air Force Base, National Guard, Hahira Fire Department, Valdosta Police Department, Valdosta Fire Department, and any other agency to join your respective teams for a friendly Inter-Agency Competition. A trophy and prize package will be awarded to the winning team!

Race Schedule:

  • 7:45 AM: Remarks by our City and County officials, followed by the Moody AFB Honor Guard.
  • 8:00 AM: Race begins at the intersection of N Valley and N Patterson, just down the block from previous years' starts and finishes in Downtown Valdosta. The course is a fast out-and-back running past Valdosta State University.

Volunteers: Volunteers are strongly encouraged!
   
  100% of the race proceeds will be donated to Valor Service Dogs, Inc.

Awards: Awards will be presented to the top Overall male and female, as well as to the Masters male and female. Additionally, awards will be given to the top two finishers in the following age groups:

  • 11 and Under
  • 12 - 14
  • 15 - 19
  • 20 - 29
  • 30 - 39
  • 40 - 49
  • 50 - 59
  • 60 - 69
  • 70 and Over

We will also recognize the oldest and youngest finishers, as well as the most patriotic participant.

Ceremony: Awards and 9/11 Ceremonies will commence at 9:00 AM on the front courthouse lawn, located at 100 E. Central Ave., Valdosta, GA.
